Introduction

Forgiveness is central to the believer’s life. No matter how far one strays, Allah’s mercy is always greater. This powerful dua for forgiveness, taught by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is considered one of the most superior forms of repentance.

(Full Hadith: Sayyidul Istighfar – Sahih al-Bukhari)

Translation: O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You. You created me, and I am Your servant... I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your blessings upon me and I acknowledge my sins. So forgive me, for verily none forgives sins except You.

Context

This dua, known as Sayyidul Istighfar (the chief of all repentance supplications), was highly recommended by the Prophet ﷺ to be recited in the morning and evening.

Key Benefits

  • It strengthens your relationship with Allah.
  • It acknowledges both Allah’s favors and your shortcomings.
  • It invites divine mercy with humility and sincerity.

When to Use

Make this part of your daily dhikr routine. It’s especially powerful at Fajr and Maghrib. It’s also useful after mistakes or during times of regret and guilt.

May Allah forgive us completely, purify our hearts, and accept our repentance. Ameen.
