Dua for Healing – Asking Allah for Shifa (Cure)

Dua for Healing – Asking Allah for Shifa (Cure)

Published on: July 28, 2025

Introduction

Health is one of Allah’s greatest blessings. When illness strikes — whether physical, emotional, or spiritual — Islam encourages turning to Allah for healing, while also seeking appropriate means. This dua beautifully combines hope and healing.

Transliteration: Allahumma Rabb an-naas, adhhib al-ba’s, ishfi anta ash-Shafi, la shifa’a illa shifa’uka, shifa’an la yughadiru saqama.

Translation: O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the harm and cure [him/her], for You are the Healer. There is no healing but Your healing, a healing that leaves behind no ailment.

Context

This dua was frequently made by the Prophet ﷺ for those who were ill. It reflects ultimate reliance on Allah, recognizing Him as the only true source of shifa (healing).

Key Reflections

  • Allah is “Ash-Shafi” — The One who heals with perfection.
  • True healing affects both the body and the soul.
  • While medicine is important, our faith places trust in the source behind the medicine.

When to Use This Dua

Recite this when you or a loved one is sick. Blow it gently after reading. It can be used with ruqyah (spiritual healing) or during daily adhkar. Pair it with sabr and tawakkul.

May Allah cure all those who are sick, relieve their pain, and grant us a life of well-being and gratitude. Ameen.
