Dua for Mercy – Inviting Allah’s Compassion Into Our Lives

Published on: July 28, 2025

Introduction

Mercy is one of Allah’s greatest attributes. He is Ar-Rahman and Ar-Raheem — the Most Merciful in every sense. In this article, we turn to heartfelt duas seeking His mercy in our sins, our shortcomings, and our hopes for the Hereafter.

Beautiful Dua from the Qur’an

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ

Translation: My Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the best of those who show mercy. (Surah Al-Mu’minun 23:118)

When to Ask for Allah’s Mercy

  • After sinning – sincere repentance draws mercy
  • During illness, poverty, or weakness
  • For others – especially parents, the Ummah, and deceased

How to Earn Mercy

  • Show mercy to others – "The Merciful shows mercy to those who are merciful" (Tirmidhi)
  • Help the poor, the oppressed, and the weak
  • Be gentle with others — in speech and action

Ya Rahman, Ya Raheem — envelope us and our loved ones in Your infinite mercy in this life and the next. Ameen.
