Introduction
In Islam, one of the greatest forms of honoring parents is making dua for them. Whether they are alive or have passed on, this timeless prayer is among the most beautiful gifts you can offer them.
Dua in Arabic
رَّبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا
Transliteration: Rabbi irḥamhuma kama rabbayani sagheera.
Translation: My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.
Context
This dua is derived from the Qur’an (Surah Al-Isra, 17:24). It reflects gratitude, love, and compassion — all wrapped in a single, sincere prayer for one's parents.
Lessons
- Mercy for parents is a continuous dua — it doesn’t stop with their death.
- We are reminded to show gratitude for their sacrifices, especially during our childhood.
- This prayer builds compassion, humility, and emotional awareness.
Practical Usage
Recite this dua after every salah. Include it in your daily routine. If your parents have passed away, this dua continues to benefit them in their graves and earns you reward as well.
