Published on: July 28, 2025

Introduction

Islam honors the pursuit of knowledge and considers it a path to Paradise. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would frequently ask Allah to increase him in knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. This dua is essential for students, teachers, and lifelong learners.

Dua in Arabic

رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

Transliteration: Rabbi zidni ilma.

Translation: My Lord, increase me in knowledge.

Context

This brief but powerful dua appears in Surah Taha (20:114), revealed to the Prophet ﷺ during his divine instruction. It shows that the increase in knowledge is something only Allah can grant.

Reflections

  • Knowledge is a sacred trust that must be used for good.
  • This dua should be paired with action and sincerity.
  • Seeking knowledge brings humility, not arrogance.

Practical Usage

Recite before studying, attending classes, preparing for exams, or delivering a lecture. It’s excellent for students of deen and dunya alike.

May Allah increase us all in beneficial knowledge and grant us wisdom that brings us closer to Him. Ameen.
